Chief Minister of Punjab announces 1,224 complimentary apartments for laborers.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled plans to distribute 1,224 free apartments to workers in Taxila and Sunder labor colonies, with the goal of enhancing their living conditions.

During a top-level meeting, significant decisions were taken to improve workers’ welfare. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz assessed the performance of the Labor Department and was briefed on several initiatives, such as worker scholarships, establishment of labor settlements, and healthcare initiatives.

The Chief Minister underscored the significance of these initiatives, noting that 6 billion rupees have been allocated for pending death and marriage grants benefiting over 29,000 workers.

Approval was also granted for the construction of two hostels in Garment City for female workers, offering accommodation to 704 women in Sheikhupura.

CM Maryam Nawaz emphasized the government’s dedication to labor rights, including reforms in labor legislation, occupational safety enhancements, and the enforcement of minimum wage standards. She expressed concern about the inadequate enforcement of laws pertaining to domestic workers and emphasized the necessity of implementing safety protocols and standard operating procedures, particularly for sanitation workers performing hazardous tasks
