FBR has blocked 230,000 SIMs of non-filers to date.

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has currently blocked 230,000 SIMs belonging to individuals who have not filed income tax returns.

The tax authorities are forwarding information on 5,000 non-filer individuals to telecom operators daily.

Thus far, 76,636 citizens have regained access to their mobile phone SIMs after submitting their income tax returns.

In May 2024, FBR established a Joint Working Group (JWG) comprising tax officials and telecom operators to implement Income Tax General Order (ITGO) No. 1 of 2024 and streamline the process of blocking SIMs for non-filers.

Major telecom operators commenced blocking SIMs of non-filers on May 20th.
