Pakistani Sisters Win Gold Medals at International Weightlifting Championship

Pakistani sisters Sehar Sohail and Veronika Sohail made history by winning gold medals at the current Weightlifting Championship in Potchefstroom, South Africa.

Competing in the 52 kg and 57 kg divisions respectively, the Pakistani sisters excelled in the squat, bench press, deadlift, and overall weight classes.

The Secretary of the Weightlifting Federation, Rashid Malik, affirmed that with the Sohail sisters’ wins, Pakistan’s total gold medal tally at the Asian Pacific African Combined Weightlifting Championship has now reached an impressive eight. Malik commended the sisters’ dedication and commitment, emphasizing their victories as a significant source of national pride. Their achievement is not only a personal triumph but also showcases the potential and emerging talent within Pakistan’s weightlifting community.

Sehar and Veronika’s accomplishments have been a highlight of the championship, sparking pride and celebration throughout Pakistan. Adding to the anticipation, their younger sister, Twinkle Sohail, is scheduled to compete in the equipped weightlifting category on July 13.

The Sohail sisters’ trip to South Africa was facilitated by the support of the Sports Board Punjab. This assistance has been essential in providing them with the required resources and opportunities to compete and shine on the global stage.
