Punjab Unveils Rs. 5.4 Trillion Tax-Free Budget

On Thursday, Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman unveiled a Rs. 5,446 billion tax-free budget for the next fiscal year.

The budget includes several measures such as increases in salaries, pensions, and the minimum wage. Rehman announced that revenue collection is expected to increase by 53 percent to Rs. 960 billion. Additionally, the Annual Development Programme (ADP) will receive Rs. 842 billion, which will fund 77 new mega projects.

For the first time, the Minority Development Fund has been increased by Rs. 1 billion. Rehman also highlighted allocations of Rs. 6 billion for the laptop scheme and Rs. 5 billion for the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute Endowment Fund.

The minister emphasized revolutionary measures in the health sector and noted that free Wi-Fi facilities have been implemented at various locations across Punjab. Solar panels will be provided to electricity consumers using up to 100 units, and easy loans will be available for constructing houses up to five marla.

Earlier in the day, the Punjab cabinet, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, approved the budget during a meeting in Lahore.
