KP declare Public Holiday for Islamic New Year

Public Holiday

On Thursday, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) provincial government issued a notification declaring a public holiday throughout the province to mark the beginning of the new Islamic year.

As per the notification, the holiday on the first day of Muharram depends on the sighting of the moon. It also stated that all government offices, educational institutions, and businesses will be closed.

To ascertain the beginning of Muharram al-Haram, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, led by Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir, will convene on July 6th.

This committee will sight the moon, and subsequent meetings of zonal committees at their respective headquarters will support the central committee.
