Distributors Raise Concerns Over Potential Increase in LPG Rates Due to Import Tax Hike in Upcoming Budget

The All Pakistan LPG Distributors Association has expressed serious concerns regarding the proposed hike in the general sales tax on imported LPG in the upcoming fiscal year budget. They have warned that such a move could lead to a significant increase in the price of LPG by Rs. 164 per cylinder.

In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Association has urged the federal government to reconsider any plans to impose new taxes on LPG imports.

The association argued that raising the GST tax rate to 18 percent would have adverse effects on both importers and consumers.

Highlighting the heavy reliance of 300 LPG marketing companies on imported LPG, with 60-70 percent of domestic consumption being met through imports, they emphasized that any decision to increase the import duty on LPG would impose hardship on the public. They urged the government to carefully review and reconsider such a proposal if it is indeed being contemplated.
