FBR Blocks

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has taken action to block 105,000 SIM cards belonging to individuals who have not filed their income tax returns.

Sources have informed ProPakistani that the tax authority is providing data on 5,000 non-filers to telecom operators daily.

A total of 18,902 citizens have had their mobile phone SIM cards reinstated after filing their income tax returns.

Last month, the FBR established a Joint Working Group (JWG) comprising tax officials and telecom operators to implement Income Tax General Order (ITGO) No 1 of 2024 and streamline the process of blocking SIM cards belonging to non-filers.

Leading telecom operators began blocking SIM cards of non-filers on May 20.

The FBR has identified 506,671 individuals who did not file their income tax returns for the year 2023.
